Beginner courseLesson 9 of 11

Everything yellow — now put it in order.

The top is solid yellow but the sides of the last layer are jumbled. PLL — Permutation of the Last Layer — moves those final pieces around the top without flipping anything. Two steps: corners, then edges.

Step 1 — corners: find the headlights

Spin U slowly and study each side. "Headlights" are two corner stickers of the same color on one face, like a car facing you. Exactly one side has them (if every side has headlights, your corners are already done — skip to edges).

Corner cycle

U R U' L' U R' U' L

Hold the headlights on the LEFT face, then run it. Repeat once more if the corners aren't solved yet.

Step 2 — edges: rotate the middles

With corners solved, at least one side is now a full solid bar. Hold that solved bar at the back and cycle the remaining three edges:

Edge cycle (Ua)

R U' R U R U R U' R' U' R2

Run it, check, run it again if needed — it cycles three edges counter-clockwise. No solid bar anywhere? Run it once from any angle and one will appear.

Somewhere in the middle of that sequence, the cube clicks into a full solve. Take a second. Every scrambled cube you ever meet is now a solved cube that hasn't happened yet.

Tip

These two are "beginner PLL" — enough to finish any solve. The algorithm library holds the faster versions (T-perm, H-perm and friends) for when repeat-until-solved starts feeling slow.
